| Candles The women of the house lights at least two candles every Friday night shortly before sunset and says a blessing over them. In this way she announces the beginning of the Sabbat. The head of the household says a blessing over a cup of wine and two carefully interlaced Sabbat-breads. Afterwards he says the “sanctification” and inaugurates in this way the Sabbat Meal. With this blessing we thank God because He has let the grapes and the ears of the wheat grow. |
The Challot-Cloth The breads are covered with white, elaborately decorated cloth. An embroidered inscription points to the intended purpose. Apart from that the white cloth symbolizes dew, which God sent to us in the desert. |
